I nominate YOU!

You've got like 47,000 Roscoes man. Pick one and knock something out.

(I'm sure you can work a new product/ sales pitch in there somewhere.)

God Bless, Rasy

Snooze you loose!

I had the house to myself so I put together a version of one of my favorite Berry Oakley bass parts (Allman Bro's).......

A mini "bass orchestra" version of "Stand Back" ....

Stand Back

Cool Bill! What effect are you using? Is that an envelope filter?

Way to kick off Part 2 guys!

Joe, is that the Alembic setup, or the Roland?

Bill. It's cool to hear you jump in. You should do it more often man

I've got something in the works but I've been averted from recording for a day or two.

I'll jump in soon.

God Bless, Ray

Cheers! It's a Yamaha DAW(the one I linked to in your thread on recording setups, the Audiogram6), and Cubase AI4, which came with the Yamaha, and of course, my LG!
Both pickups on full, and the phaser is one of the stock fx with Cubase, since I didn't think of it ahead of time, if I had, I would have used my Dphase.

Ray,
I played those parts through the Alembic preamp. I just installed a new JAN Philips NOS-5751 preamp tube so I had to see how it recorded. It's a bit warmer to my ears (than the 12AX7).

Where did it go after the F1X, Joe? Straight into the BR-600?

Yeah. What type of signal chain do you use with yours Greg? Have you found that it's best to run the Alembic gain higher and the recording device low or vise versa?

Joe,

I've just ran through several tunes of yours I have on my HD and the Alembic setup not only seems to be warmer, but much clearer.

It's like the analogy Jerry used in comparing the Berg cabs to the Aggies. "Somebody took the blanket off".

Makes my stuff that much more amaturish.

God Bless, Ray

For recording, I use input 2 on the F1X. That's the padded input that is for active basses. I run the volume around 10:00 or so (3-4, if you think in terms of 0-10). One BIG thing to remember with the F1X: 2-10-2 (TMB) is flat. Keep that mid knob cranked if you want to avoid a scooped sound!!

I use input 1 live, but I find that input 1 is more likely to overdrive my USB interface when I'm recording. Not sure why, but I just feel like I get better results using input 2 when recording.

I set the input gain on the USB interface so that I peg around -6 dB on the channel in Sonar. That's usually enough to keep me from getting any accidental distortion if I get excited or hit the pickup by accident. Once the track is laid and it seems to be a keeper, I "normalize" the entire track so that the loudest sample in the track is 0 dB. To do that, select the entire audio clip, then choose Process | Audio | Normalize...

Yep, the Alembic F1X is the complete shiznitz for recording bass. I've yet to run across a bass that didn't sound great with the preamp set pretty much flat (2-10-2, or maybe 4-10-4 if I need more oomph or bite).

That Alembic really is beastly, tell me this though, is it pure clean power, or can it overdrive?

Yeah, it's pretty clean for sure... I know I tried overdriving many years ago with bad results, but I didn't know spit when I was trying that. I guess I know something I need to try soon?

They say the F1X is just the front end of a Fender Bassman amp, albeit with really nice parts...
