I can't wait to see how your Roscoe JJ bass turns out. You're building exactly what what I've been thinking about building lately. Although I go back and forth from 4 to 6 string almost daily.
Maybe you can bring it to the next Georgia GTG. Sha (Deon) called and he's wanting to bring his new Roscoe 6 and another new toy (secret! ) real soon. We might have to schedule a GTG a bit earlier this year! |

All the more reason to stay in and play with Roscoes, and listen to these tracks! |

I think that I'm best at just roughing songs in. I just never seem to know when to stop tinkering with 'em and they rarely get much better.
At any rate, here's the new version: Autumn Breeze II |

I picked that picture of Godzilla because he is badass (way more than me at least) and think he is poised to say "Yes!", or "Excuse me, can I interject my thoughts here" type of thing. As most of you fellas know by now, I am not very serious on TB & , in contrast my work & life can be very stressful- you Roscoe Heads give me just the right relief that I need to stay sane. I really do look forward to checking out the Roscoe / Rocket forums each morning & hope y'all feel the same. I Love the music chat, Roscoe feedback, football opinions, pics & sound clips. I really enjoy the whole experience.
You guys are the best and I really hope some day we can all get together and raise a toast! I would love to shake hands & play LilRay's Cowboy's bass! Even as a Patriots fan!
P.S.-Joe, I have been through Georgia many times while driving to Jupiter, FL (wife's grand parents), are you or Ray near route I 95?

I too dig chatting with all the Roscoeheads and Rocket Scientists(????), and I'd dig meeting everyone and having a good ole Hootnanny (That's Jawja speak for righteous throw down party ).
Now onto bolded portion one; You are more than welcome to thump away to your hearts content on The ol Cowboys Roscoe (and hey I won't tell Gisele so your Pats fandom will not suffer) . Maybe if we get you down and all the other 'Heads together, somebody'll show me how to play the poor thing This is kinda overwhelming. You've got Michaelangelo, Davinci, and Shakesperean level artist, and here I come with "OOH Look guys, I colored this one without crossing the lines....much"
As to bolded portion two; I live in the Northeast Georgia area off I-85 near the South Carolina border.
Joe, I just downloaded ABII and I'll report back shortly. I want to give each version a listen a time or two, to see what I can hear.
God Bless, Ray

The chording adds an immense amount of depth but man that new fretless lead part is like pouring A&W Root Beer on Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream. I especially like the staccato portion.
And I don't know what else you've done but it seems that the levels meld together differently. I don't know if that's panning, EQ or simply my pea brain but I hear a difference overall.
Inspiring my man
I'm off to color inside the lines again tomorrow.
God Bless, Ray

Myself, I just consider it being an obsessed maniac, aspiring to some measure of perfection. But I'm just nuts so who cares what I think.
A suggestion or two for your tinkering pleasure if I may?
Add some high eq to the chords and a splash of chorus & verb.
Double the melody line up an octave to make a bolder statement. |

I hear what you're saying 'bout TB and primarily the Roscoe & Rocket music forums. I always look forward to checking out the new posts every morning, lunch and evening. It's like checking-in with your 2nd family!
I live between I-75 and I-16. I'm about 1/2 way between the two. You really need to plan on coming through the area when we schedule our next GTG. We'd all love to meet you in the flesh and you'd get to bang on lots of nice Roscoe's and other assorted lower bass life! ...and we'd even feed and water you (good ole southern hospitality! ). |

God Bless, Ray | Cool Ray! Thanks for giving it a listen Brother. Those Roscoe fretless basses just have the mojo. They make every note mean something special. Growl and mwah for days!
I do need to learn the Sonar 8.5 software though. I can't turn off the compression on independent channels during the mastering process and it tends to squash the fretless tone a bit ........ Quote: |

Double the melody line up an octave to make a bolder statement. | Thanks for the feedback Steve. I'll give it a try this evening. After listening to the clip I also realized that I never EQ'd the slap parts and they could use a bit more high end sizzle.

I found an issue with my Line 6 POD XT that I'm trying to fix, but I'll color away once I get my pencil box organized.
God Bless, Ray

Sorry guys but I had to try some of Steve's suggestions (although I didn't get around to adding the higher fretless part). I did add some EQ and verb to the chords, a bit more sizzle to the slap part and some accents to the drums (during the slap section).
I also will add this bit of FYI: - Roscoe basses record really well, regardless of who's playing them
- The Alembic F-1X is awesome as the front end of the recording chain
- Greg & Steve's suggestions on "bass orchestra 101" have helped me tremendously! Thanks guys!

Quick question, on the clips you guys are doing do you "clone" phrases and use them throughout the clip, or do you play everything live?
Gotta ask!
God Bless, Ray

God Bless, Ray | Hey Ray! (I like saying that! )
I actually do both. I don't want the song to sound robotic but I also can't stand to have inconsistent notes in a repeated pattern. Sometimes I just play through and fix the measures that stick out.
I'm not sure why but I hate splicing in parts during solos! For some weird reason I feel like it's cheating if I can't play it all of the way through without messing up.
Of course I do usually copy some of the more complicated repetitive parts. I usually play through those and copy the section that I think exhibits the best emotions of the take. I do try for a little variability though to keep it human sounding.
Hey man, bottom line, use the technology that's there when it's an advantage! |

Heh, I feel like a cheat for using any after play eq'ing or compression. |

You've GOT to get into Sonar. I can't imagine doing anything this good on the BR-600, so I shudder to think what you'd be able to do in Sonar once you become proficient with it. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
