They really sound warm & smooth but lack the mwah of the rounds. They also have a real slick feel, which is great for slides. IMO they would be great for jazz.
...you listening Jerry?
I recorded a couple of sound clips, one with the TI Flats and one with the D'addario RW's. The clips have just a touch of drums and Verb.
If anyone is interested in the TI Flats, I thought that I'd throw this out there. I paid just under $100 for these strings .
Yeah, I know too much! But folks say that they last forever.
I'm willing to send these strings (I pay postage) to any Roscoehead to try on their Roscoe 3005 fretless. All that you've got to be willing to do is, if you're not crazy about 'em, be willing to send them (postage paid) to the next Roscoehead that want's to try them. If you know that you're not going to buy them, but still want to try them, then that's cool too. Just be willing to send them to the next Roscoehead on the list.
In the end, if someone really digs them, they can have them for $50. If no one want's them, the last Roscoehead just sends them back to me. Fair enough?
Here's the sound clips: Roscoe Fretless with TI Flats Roscoe Fretless with D'Addario XL RW

I've experimented with flats over the years, and ultimately went to extremes...I've got a Rob Allen fretless for 'acoustic'/traditional work and the Roscoe for anything more modern. On the latter, I'm just too in love with rounds.
I've heard nothing but great things about these strings, and your clip certainly confirms them. |

Jerry, I figured that you would have tried flats on your fretless previously. You typically leave no stone unturned!
In the end, I also prefer the nickel rounds on my Roscoe fretless. Probably because the mwah and growl that they give are what attracted me to the fretless in the beginning.
I had the TI's installed on my Warmoth Gecko fretless (ebony board) and thought that maybe the ebony board provided the warmth that I heard. After putting them on the Roscoe with the diamondwood I have to admit to hearing the same warmth there too. To my ears the TI's seem to have a similar growl (as the rounds) in the lower notes but not nearly as much in the upper register notes.
You've got to believe though that the flats would inflict much less wear on the fingerboard though.
Oh well. The offers still stands. If nobody wants to give them a try I'll just install them back on the Warmoth. |

God Bless, Ray | Must be good ole' dependable Mediafire!
Something else that I noticed that was a bit interesting. If you open the mp3's in Audacity and compare the wave graphic representation between the 2 clips, they are significantly different. Some of it may be due to the level's at mastering (although I tried to keep them equal) but the amplitude of the TI clip is greater and most of the sound waves appear chunkier in overall appearance. |

Wow, is my timing ever off, really different playing to a backing track. So if you can put aside the terrible playing on my part I will tell you what my setting were.
This was done on my new CS Plus with Jazz Barts, Bart preamp, Alder body, Amboyna top, Maple neck and Wenge fingerboard. My setting were set flat and I plugged directly into his 5 channel Behringer with settings set flat. He recorded this using, I think SwitchCraft?
Anyway here is my second run through, be easy on me. http://www.webobjectives.com/TB/AloneAgain.mp3 |

We really want to hear more!!! I do have one question though. Why did you post this in the "Sound Clips of Roscoe Fretless w/TI Flats" thread? Do you have TI Flat strings installed? Why not in the "Roscoe Sound Clips" thread?
I know that you're the President of the Roscoehead club and all but just saying ........ |
