sound man comments

The Steely Jam played a local club tonight - Molly Malone's. Fairly well known, and I've played there before with my funk band, both times then with my Rob Allen. The soundguy is really good, and sees dozens of bands a week. For those gigs he raved about the sound of the RA (using the house back line and taking a direct out from my pedal board). Tonight I had the fretted Roscoe for the what turned out to be a 90 minute set (supposed to be only 75 min). During sound check we did the usual routine, then he asked, "is that an active bass?" I said that it was, and he said, "wow, every other active bass that runs through this buzzes - yours is dead quiet."

Score one for Roscoe. And btw, the band was killin' and the place was packed. Opened with Don't Take Me Alive followed by My Old School. Went for the throat and stayed there. The bass was big and fat in the mix, and I basically just dialed between neck pup on tunes like Ricki, Caves of Altimira and Deacon Blues, and more bridge cut for Green Earrings and Josie. Some big fat grooves to be had...awesome fun stuff.

Thumbs up

Sounds like a fun night Todd! What a cool gig too! I've always loved playing Josie & Peg. What great bass lines. Chuck Rainey is just awesome!

Post some clips if you made any.

Good stuff. My last band did a great cover of Reeling in the Years, always popular with the crowd.

My 3 Roscoes fetch me many compliments, especially this:

(Sorry for lame quality, just posted this using the new TB on the iPhone and wanted to see how the picture attachment quality was / is )

Unfortunately no clips. My g/f was out of town so the staff media maven and minder of the H4n wasn't on-site. We did have a photog doing some stills. We actually were going to do a 3 camera live video shoot but at the last minute decided to bail - was going to be pricey and we would have needed a DP to light to get decent crowd shots. The life of promotion...

the first photo evidence of rockin' the Roscoe - facebook fans
