LG 3005 Suddenly Breaks In!

I have a beaut of an LG3005. Built almost two years ago.
Madrone top, Spanish Cedar bod, Black Ebony Bd.
Started with an AG OPB-1.
Originally sounded good especially recording but way compressed, too dark etc. for live work.
Dealing with some dark oily woods here.
Changed to OPB-3. Improvement.
Changed to Sunbeams. Huge improvement. Sweet musical overtones though out the range. (prefer D'Addarios on another LG!)
Changed to Bart CBs. Big improvement. Airy.
Lowered Pickups. More air.
As it's aged it's opened up. Dark compressed no.
Unplugged it will rattle both strap locks with it's resonance.
Plugged in I dial back the bass a hair below the detent. All of the freqs. above are pronounced and balanced.
From day one it's been a great recording bass. It just didn't speak live.
Now it's there.
This is really the story of several pieces of wood, metal and some 'tronics and doesn't reflect on any bass by any manufacturer. Be patient if your babe isn't quite there yet. Make changes slowly and with restraint. Changing strings can be huge. Lowering pickups was also huge in my case. Allowed more string vibration.
Biggest change? Me. This baby responds to a gentle touch. I really lightened my attack. It's good for my hands, the music and the bass speaks.
Thanks to Keith, Gard and all the folks at Roscoe for their design, execution and support.

That's a really cool post. I'm impressed how patient you were to go through that process, and found what worked for you. I'm gonna go home and check my pickup height.

This is the exact situation I've had with my roscoe. Always loved the bass, but originally only used it for jazz. Now as I've thinned out my bass collection I need all my basses to work for any kind of music and the Bart/Bart set up was a little to dark for my taste. For rock that is. Now I have CB/Aguilar OPB2 and its perfect. As far as strings I had always used ernie ball because they are cheap and could be found at any store. Recently I started playing DR high beams and Marcus Miller's on all my basses. These strings are a million time better then the ernie balls, atleast to my taste.

No hate towards the original Bart/Bart set up. It sounds great. Just like my current set up a bit better.

You really cant go wrong when it comes to Roscoe's. Amazing basses.

Great Post on patience. I know my Martin acoustic sounds better now than when I bought her in 98 letting the woods age nicely. Roscoes cant be beat!!!
