| LG 3005 Suddenly Breaks In! I have a beaut of an LG3005. Built almost two years ago.
Madrone top, Spanish Cedar bod, Black Ebony Bd.
Started with an AG OPB-1.
Originally sounded good especially recording but way compressed, too dark etc. for live work.
Dealing with some dark oily woods here.
Changed to OPB-3. Improvement.
Changed to Sunbeams. Huge improvement. Sweet musical overtones though out the range. (prefer D'Addarios on another LG!)
Changed to Bart CBs. Big improvement. Airy.
Lowered Pickups. More air.
As it's aged it's opened up. Dark compressed no.
Unplugged it will rattle both strap locks with it's resonance.
Plugged in I dial back the bass a hair below the detent. All of the freqs. above are pronounced and balanced.
From day one it's been a great recording bass. It just didn't speak live.
Now it's there.
This is really the story of several pieces of wood, metal and some 'tronics and doesn't reflect on any bass by any manufacturer. Be patient if your babe isn't quite there yet. Make changes slowly and with restraint. Changing strings can be huge. Lowering pickups was also huge in my case. Allowed more string vibration.
Biggest change? Me. This baby responds to a gentle touch. I really lightened my attack. It's good for my hands, the music and the bass speaks.
Thanks to Keith, Gard and all the folks at Roscoe for their design, execution and support.
