Now, I have read in this forum, multiple times about the level of admiration my fellow Roascoe Heads have for these strings, so I decided to pick up a set and see for my self, what all the giffuffal was about.
Man, I wish I have listened to you guys (Gard) four or five sets of string ago!
Thanks for the suggestion... I really like 'em!
I gotta get an updated pic of my LG to post up here, cause she now looks like a bride on her wedding day - dead sexy and glamorous at the same time!
Thanks folks!

Fishheadjoe | Joe, glad you like 'em.
They're definitely not for everyone, but man, I am so happy with them, and have been for about 7-8 years now!

Though, they're not so fun if you do a lot of slides, especially big or fast ones.

A few of the songs my band plays have me sliding up and down the neck, no ill affect yet. I will say however, after a three hour rehearsal on Firday night, my fingers were a little sensitive on Saturday morning. Nothing that time won't take care of.

How much 'rougher' are they really on the slides. I had heard the coatin actually made them smoother... Feedback here seems to contradict this.

It wasn't that they were rough to me, but there's a lot of friction on them, like running your finger along a carpet or cloth too fast.

...they're the only strings that have ever been on that bass.

I was told that the coatin has a nickel-like feeling under the finger... I think they'll look awesome on my Roscoes as well...

Had a first rehearsal last weekend with a (primarily) jazz band. 6 hours and a little touchiness on the finger tips, but I had taken a year off without playing with anyone.
And, they do look great too!

And, they do look great too! | Hey Jim, how are you? Did this bass have the BB's on it when I played it last Feb? I played Gard's fretless days later and his fretless is heaven on earth- it had the Black Beauties and they felt great. I had them on my black Century Standard (fretted) and didn't like the feel. I may reconsider for my Roscoe Cen Standard fretless.......(just more ways to earn my hard earned money I guess ).
Do you string aficionados think perhaps I had a bad set of BB's? They felt awful when sliding up and down the neck and did wear out from fret wear which looked unpleasant. I really like the DR Sunbeams on my Roscoe fretless Century but am always willing to try new things...... |

Yeah, the BB's were on when you were here. They absolutely feel different than regular nickles but fairly easy to get used to. Haven't experienced any wear from frets.
OT - Boston 4: Vancouver 0, first period.

The strings feel a bit tacky right out of the box, but that fades pretty quickly (2-3 days?).

Oh, and Jim - - I'd forgotten how incredible that bass looked. Lucky dude...

...they may put themselves out of business!!!
...FWIW, keep in mind I've still got the original strings on my NS Design CR5M from 2001!

My DR coated ones still sound exactly the same as the day I put them on, but I haven't been abusing that bass, and they started to chip on the G string already, which honestly doesn't really matter. Would love to try the K3's.
