| | Registered User | | Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: Austin, TX | | | The time has finally come. Well, for some reason I put off buying a 2nd roscoe in 2007 (probably because I was upgrading my amp instead) and in 2008 I bought a house, so there went any disposable income for the year.
But, I've been financially responsible, and the taxman was very generous this year, so now's the time to jump on a fretted 5-string. The thread I linked to above is my "suggest wood and electronics" thread almost 2 years ago, and I'm actually kinda glad I didn't pull the trigger back then. My tastes have changed a bit, and what I want out of my fretted bass is a little different. Plus I've been able to play on a few different roscoes recently and hear some different electronics/pickup combos, so I think I have a better idea of what I want, and what everything sounds like.
Nowadays, I want more versatility. My two main gigs are Amid the Crash, my semi-experimental prog/alt rock band, and Lindsey Kane, a Christian acoustic-pop singer/worship leader (and church where we do pop, hard rock, sometimes gospel, and traditional hymns). I'd like to be able to do clear/punchy/aggressive/rock and fat/pocket/pop/R&B with this bass, if possible.
After playing on this guy I'm almost 100% sure that I want to go with the Audere preamp (I love what the switch does!!), and after playing this stunner I rather like the nordstrands, although I'm not 100% on the pickups if y'all think something else will work better for my needs.
I don't really want a flamed or quilted top, and I'm pretty set on a satin finish. I also want this bass to contrast with my fretless quite a bit (both in looks and in sound). It's an LG3005 with a spanish cedar body, walnut top, rainbow diamondwood fingerboard, bart 3-band electronics and bart/roscoe pickups, and standard maple/purpleheart/maple neck. I've got some photos in the LG appreciation thread. It's very warm and phat, and definitely has a nice mwah when I want it to.
Oh yeah, I'm a lefty, so I doubt there's one on the shelf waiting for me somewhere; plus I'd want to order it from the guys who sold me my 1st one... gotta support local businesses!
Thanks in advance everyone!

LG 3005 Left-handed
Solid Swamp Ash body
Natural Satin finish
Bartolini CB pickups
Audere 3ZB-R preamp
Pau Ferro fingerboard
Graphite nut
Black hardware
Double gigbag (so you can carry 'em both to gigs together!)
Lots of punch and clarity, very versatile tonally, classy look that will be a good compliment to the walnut beauty you already have, light weight and comfortable.
That's my prescription....

Doctor Gardfather | That would certainly do it! The Audere and Bart CB's sound really nice together too. If you'd really prefer a more exotic top you could also add a nice burl maple top over an ash body. That would look great in a clear or tinted satin finish too (ref. MTD)
The only other thing that I'd suggest would be to straighten out the p/u's. That would also contribute just a bit more contrast from your other LG. |

My fretted LG is going to be Bartolini/Audere with a Swamp Ash body (not sure about the top yet though).

Lefty LG3005 fretted
Solid swamp as body
Audere Preamp
Nordstrand Pickups
Pao ferro fingerboard
Graphite nut
Black hardware
satin finish????
While I was waiting for John to ring me up, I played on the LG with nordies again, and I really, really liked it, so I'm going with those instead of the CB's (sorry Gard! ).
As for the finish, I have an idea in my head that I've never seen executed quite how I picture it. basically a white stain/whitewash with grain enhancement, so that it's almost a negative image of Basso's black beauty; I've always kinda imagined the finish making the bass look like a ghost... if that makes any sense. Bass Emporium has a couple fenders that get close, but without really being able to see the grain.
I may stick with the natural satin finish, though...
I'm going to find a couple pictures (and photoshop 'em if I need to) to send along what I'm thinking of...
Anyways, I'm really excited, as I'm sure y'all can guess!

I may actually go with a different color on my fretless soon. Green strings might be really sweet...

It really adds a vintage vibe to it!

That's a sweet looking axe. I'm a fan of the more traditional/conservative looks myself, and your bass is right up my alley, aesthetically.
I think we need to get DR to make some white coated strings for all the white basses out there. They could call them "Tighty Whiteys" - or I guess if you put 'em on a MusicMan they'd be "Ernie Ball-huggers."
Nice tasteful design. Big thumbs up.

Yeah, I'm not a real big fan of quilted or flame maple. I generally prefer more traditional wood grain, although I do like some of the spalted tops out there. haha... if you saw my fretless LG, you wouldn't think there was anything conservative about it! Alternating green and pink strings like darkstrike suggested would, indeed, match the fingerboard Quote:
