Transcription

If anyone is interested - transcription of Gerry Mulligan solo on Boplicity from The Complete Birth Of The Cool.

Some nice vanilla, up the center lines. And it's short, only 16 bars.

For those with transcription software feel free to ping me if ya want the Finale source file.

Maybe I'm the one that eats macaroni, paste and boogers. I've tried learning to read and still can't.

^ Added a clip (about 30 sec) of the solo it was transcribed from to the original post..

Ray, I wish I had some magical advice to offer ya Truth is, it's just one of those things that ya have to do a lot until ya get comfortable with it. I guess an analogy is; when you read aloud words from a book you've done it so often for so long it just happens. Same thing, it takes time to train your brain to have your hands and ears respond to the visual information. For whatever it's worth, I see it recommended often to break the rhythm and pitch apart when you're starting out. i.e. read through the notes and play them with no rhythm then go back and tap the rhythm out and finally put them together and, always sing the parts... Your ultimate goal is to have that all come together in your head, in an instant, prior to it being sent out for execution.

All I can tell ya is if ya work at it a little bit every day it will come quicker than ya think.

Damn I hate it when I sound like I'm preaching...

I'm an impatient cuss. I want the ability faster than a microwave burrito from 7-11, or a SuperDog.

Thanks PE, it's guys like you who post this type of thread that make TB great. Now I have a great homework assignment and I have been playing in a jazz trio so this is perfect timing!

Awesome, Brian. Thanks! I love what you do...and your willingness to share.

Ray. Brian's advice is top-notch. If it's of any help, let's spend some time talking about reading on 04/16.

+1 on the Thanks to Brian.

On the reading, I think I may be able to close my mouth long enough to learn something. Looking forward to it Jerry!

Thanks for the transcription!

In measure 6, beat 2, I think it should be Bb-Bnatural.
