| | | | Which type of amp do you use on your Roscoe? I play an LG standard 5 and run through a Mark Bass SD800 750 watt head with two Peavey speakers -- 4x10 and 1x15.
As many good things as I had liked about Mark Bass, I don't feel like it is doing my sound justice. I am thinking about just purchasing a basic 800 watt power amp from say, Carvin, and using a Sans Amp for a little bit of drive when needed.
The bass just sounds so good as is, I am thinking this could give me the best sound I am looking for.
What do you guys play your Roscoe's through? I tried looking in the history of the board but did not find too many threads on this, but maybe I was just missing it. |

Almost all other gigs: Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 and one or two Bergantino HT112ER cabs.
Rare gig: 9.0 and Bergantino AE212 cab.
FWIW, I used to run an Epifani UL502 amp, and I LOVE it with my Roscoe basses. I still have a 902C, but rarely have a need for that much oomph. |

Can't say I'm a fan of Mark Bass gear, particularly the amps, there's just something missing, or kinda fake sounding, to my ears. I guess that's the price you pay for light-weight gear.
Cheers,

Any chance you can sample some of the amp & cab offerings out there? There is so much wonderful stuff on the market these days. Personally, I've only heard a couple of MarkBass heads, and wasn't knocked out by either of them - both in terms of quality of sound and output. Likewise, Peavey cabs seem to be a bit behind the development curve. If possible, maybe you can take your bass (and amp) to test-drive some stuff...see what works for you, what doesn't, and then narrow things down. Good luck... |

...sadly, there aren't any places in Charlotte that have a lot of good stuff to try out.
What you need to do is take a day to drive down to Atlanta (Atlanta Bass Gallery) or up to Blacksburg (Rocket Music) and check some things out to see what you dig and don't dig.
For the record, my rig:
Eden WT-550 (pre-US Music)
Eden D-210MBX (also pre-US Music)
Epifani UL310 Series II
Great rig, lots of punch and lows, but nice and clear too. Really happy with my WT-550, even after 10 years.

Then was very unhappy with the month wait to get it fixed. Had an RH450 but wasn't my cup of tea. Currently run either Streamliner S900 or Shuttle 9.0 with all my basses (including the Roscoe) and am very happy. |

Cabwise, either a Mesa 1x12 or EA NL210 or both. I've also got a little 1x10 that I like a lot. It has gotten a lot of work recently for rehearsals and low volume gigs. |

The only 410 Peavey made that sounded OK (to me anyway) was the Pro Series. The TVX and other rear ported cabs they made have too much mid scoop for a good sound. So, listen to other enclosures along with amps, the more the better.
Currently I use a pair of Genz-Benz Quads with a Streamliner 900, very happy with this.

But depending on the size of the gig, I'll run a BBE BMaxT preamp into a XLS Drivecore 1500 bridged. Smaller gigs might get an Epifani UL-310. Tiny / acoustic gigs might see a modded 1x10.

Gigging rig is usually a Thunderfunk 750a and 3 Aggie GS112's, Worship - Orange Terror bass and Acme LowB2. Rehearsal rig Thunderfunk 550A and Dr bASS 2460.
Oh and the Roscoes are a SKB3005 and a LG3K, of course I do use these rigs with my other basses too... for shame for shame
