Watching by the Numbers

Gard, I know this may seem an odd question, but I just noticed a pretty large discrepency in the number on some of the new, in progress, basses listed.

I always thought(I couldn't bear to use the other word) that they were probably listed in order of manufacture.

Now, I see that probably isn't the case. Are they numbered by body type?

Start date?

Just wondered. Thanks for all the help to we poor insignificant "little people" below you on the ladder of success.

...below ME on the ladder of success???

Hey man, I can't afford to buy one of these things myself, so Y'ALL are way more "successful" than I!

To answer your question:

The serial number is assigned at the time the order is spec'd, not when it is finished. The bass has a serial number before it has...well..ANYTHING! We use the serial number to track all of the parts through the process of building, that way there is no question.

Also, just incase anyone is curious, there is a stamp in the neck pocket and on the heel of the neck that has all of the related production information on it for each bass. We started this almost exactly a year ago, so anything that has been completed in the interim will have these little "tattoos" on them!
