How appropriate. |

I figured I should formally introduce myself to the forum instead of just throwing random posts out there as a stranger..
My name is Ryan, I live in Austin, TX, and I'm an alcoholic
Seriously, though.. I'm really happy to see a Roscoe Forum, and I can now call myself a Roscoe owner (sort of.. It's spending a short amount of time in layaway). Two days ago, I fell head over heels for #5778. Yesterday, I decided nobody but me should have this instrument.. So yeah. Now the wait begins...
It was really quite a surprise to see "my" bass in its own thread (Very cool, Gard!), but I feel I have to share the finished product with everyone:
#5778
LG-3005
Buckeye Burl Top
Swamp Ash Body
Diamondwood Lined Fretless Board
Maple/Purpleheart/Maple Neck
Hand-Carved Diamondwood Nut
Bartolini pickups and 18v NTMB Pre
Black Hardware
I look forward to getting to know all you guys. |

Welcome to the family!
That's a very nice bass you've got (or will have) there, I remember it well.
The one thing I really think we do exceptionally well are fretlesses. Our fretted basses are of course incredible, but there's some kind of special sauce or dust in our fretless basses, they just always make me want to keep them, each and every single one.
...lucky for you guys, I can't afford to! |

And yes - Roscoe fretless basses are especially ridiculous.
As you probably know, Bass Emporium is one of those "wish list" stores (I've been shopping there pretty much exclusively since I've been playing bass). I had been looking for a NICE 5 string fretless for a long time, and was trying out everything I could get my hands on. Before playing the Roscoe, I played:
Elrick, Zon, Pedulla, Fodera, a couple Ken Smiths, every Ritter I could find, Sadowsky, Lakland, etc, etc, etc.
I picked up the Roscoe immediately after setting down an Elrick Gold Series Evolution 5. No fretless I have ever played even comes close to what this bass can do. I've never heard anything like it.. The G especially surprised me - it "blooms" everywhere!
I wish the board wasn't lined. That's the only thing I would have done differently, had I ordered it. |

| | | | GAS lines I am expecting a new Roscoe soon. I can't wait for the day I take delivery. Its on layaway until Sept. 30, my birthday. I see the term "GAS". I can tell it means something like being anxious for new gear. Can you tell me more specifically the meaning? Thanks! |

| | | | LG3005#5102(eye of the storm)is in the house Hello from the Pac.NW, Larry here, proud new owner #5102 just wanted to show it off, http://www.talkbass.com/forum/images...attach/jpg.gif
Here are the specs. from Terry(prev.own.)
LG3005 #5102
Exhibition flame maple top(EOS)
Swamp ash body
Lined fretless black diamondwood neck
Diamondwood nut(?)
Chrome hardware
completed 2004
the nut does not look like wood, but maybe its cut from the heart of the black diamondwood, great looking and great playing, everyone I jam with loves this bass, love the lined fretless(cause I don't have 9yrs of infinite hrs a day to perfect my intonation), IMO J.P. would have played a Roscoe, gotta run cause there a Roscoe 4sale on CL and its close enough for me to go and at least play it... |

| | Supporting Member | | Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Farmington Hills, Michigan | | | i'm looking for something different to add to my bass arsenal and am considering a Roscoe.
my preference is a 19mm spaced, 34" scale 5 string.
i have never seen one with these specs in a store and am cautiously optomistic about buying basses i haven't played.......... just hasn't worked out for me in the past.
any thoughts? |

any thoughts? | Both 34" scale length and 19mm (or 3/4") string spacing are available "off the menu" options for our basses. Each adds $300 retail to the price of the bass, you'd need to contact a dealer for final pricing, however, as there will be some discount from that.
I wish I could tell you that there were a lot of our basses out there with those options and finding one to "try before you buy" would be an easy task, but that just isn't the case.
I will say that tonally, going to 34" isn't a HUGE difference. I feel a bit less tension on the E and B strings, and I find that I have to be slightly less aggressive in playing them, but they have plenty of depth and punch. The wide string spacing is a comfort/feel issue, and is a no-brainer if you like it.
Unfortunately, you'll most likely have to just take a chance if you want to get one with those specs, and hope for the best. However, I think if you have played a Roscoe, and dug what you felt and heard, you'll be completely happy with what you get when you order a bass with the 34" and 19mm options. |

| | Bass player, blogger & NetLabel owner Endorsing Artist: Roscoe, GigRig, COG Effects | | Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Nottingham, UK | | Hi guys,
Not a huge user here on talkbass, but have been a member for some time, I tend to reside in the UK and on Basschat.co.uk
I'm a Roscoe user, generally sporting my Century Standard 6 Fretless and mainly play as part of 2-piece live electonica outfit, Our Helical Mind ( Our Helical Mind). Gard and the guys have been amazing with after service enquiries and in helping me mod my bass with an Active/Passive setup (some of my effects set up does not like the 18v Pre). I've been lucky enough to be a titled a 'Roscoe Local Hero' here in the UK, and it really is an honour as I feel that Roscoe really do make the best instruments in the world.
My baby -
I have had many people tell me that my choice of bass doesn't matter with all the effects I use... I can tell you that's so far from the truth it's unreal. The Century totally transformed my sound, with huge, even tone across the whole freeboard and the slimmest and most stable neck around. Love it!
Currently working on clearing out most of my collection in order to pick up a fretted Roscoe 6 for my acoustic funk project as well.
Cheers everyone!

Thanks for posting and Welcome to our insane asylum!
I hear ya, I love my Century fretless. It is a Century Standard 5 Ash with diamond-wood like yours. I love the light weight and the body style is excellent; the bass hangs great on the strap and it is a full size without being bulky at all. I also have a SKB 3006 which is fretted and I love that as well. My Century fretless is still stock in terms of electronics and has MWAH to last eons. I purchased her from my favorite drug (er, I mean music) dealer, Greg Bump @ Rocket Music.
Here she is:
Wishing you two many years of audible enjoyment

The Century body is quite deceptive in terms of size. Although its 'full bodied' I do own larger bodied basses, and the fact that it's both slim and well carved makes it very streamlined. As you have pointed out already, one thing which is often not discussed when 'reviewing' an instrument, is how well it hangs on the strap, and for me, the Century deserves an award. Stunning balance from a 6 string instrument.
I use a Comfort Strapp and you can hardly tell you're holding the bass at all!

I have seen this bass at 30% of regular price and fell in love with the look of it, want some feedback from someone who owns one or has owned, it looks very pretty
