Its an SKB3006, ash body, quilt maple top, black gold finish, bart pickups and demter preamp.
So far I am digging it. Still getting sued to the bass a little bit, but the necks pretty comofrtable and the tone is solid. I need to change the strings and tweak the gain on the preamp (which seems a little low compared to my other basses), but I will get some pics up soon. WHo knows, maybe I will be a convert!

You'll find that the guys here are very helpful, extremely sarcastic, and overly enthusiastic about Roscoe basses.
Enjoy!
(By the way, I remember that bass, and you have a nice one! ....of course, I say that to everyone...but it's true, they're ALL nice! )
If there's anything at all that I can do to help you out, just let me know.

The preamp and pickups seemed to have a nice sound to them and I will put it through its paces over the weekend. Its a very crisp sounding bass with that usual ash/maple sizzle. Is the purpleheart in the neck there just for looks / stability or is it a deliberate tonal choice?

I'm a BIG fan of that black gold finish, it's a killer look. It can be hard to photograph well, but lots of light and a longer exposure time on your camera help. Can't wait to see some pics! |

It is VERY stable and strong, and additionally having the different species means that it is less likely to react the same way to temperature or humidity variables than the maple does - not that the maple we use is prone to issues either.
The maple on either side of the purpleheart is "bookmatched" from the same lumber, this means that half of the grain is oriented "up" and half is oriented "down", so if the lumber had any tendency to move, one half will "cancel" the other.
We also use that technique with our 3-piece maple necks for the Standard models - the two outside laminations are done in this method, the center piece is from a different piece of lumber that will tend to react in a different way from the outsides.
The purpleheart DOES have a different tone as well, it's not quite as snappy/bright as the all-maple construction. It's a subtle difference, but it is there.

There is maple, a thin accent, antoher thin maple band, the purple heart, another thin maple band, a thin accent and then the bigger piece of maple. I figures that this was the standard 3 piece neck, but it seemed to me to have more than 3 pieces.

(...and sometimes they're not there, if we don't have the good stuff available...)

| That's for sure..I have had my Century Sig. since 2006 and I have yet to need a neck adjustment...it is still set up exactly like it was the day I got it. The truss rod is still a virgin..never touched!! |

Great looking bass! I'm really partial to the Roscoe Demeter on the fretted Roscoe's. Unfortunately it doesn't have a gain control so you won't be able to adjust it (for more output). Personally I prefer it with the slightly lower gain. It really records well without over driving issues.
Congratulations! |

In regards to stability, once I set mine up, they have never needed a second touch, perfect.
