Thanks for the words of wisdom. My wife has voiced her concerns and doesn't want me getting another bike, though she has said the decision is mine.
I really enjoy riding bikes so it is a tough decision to make. I am not in any hurry to jump back on one. It could take 90 more days before I can walk without the assistance of a walker or crutches.
My wife has dangled a carrot in front of me in the form of a new Roscoe bass in place of a bike. |

I really loved riding as well. I started with a Honda 50 Sport
at age 15 (wish I still had that one!) and then moved to a
Honda 450 when they just came out with that. In 75 I got a
used Triumph Tiger (one carb, the Bonnie had 2) and in 77 a
Kawasaki 1000 LTD. It looked like the Kawa 750 below. I got
rid of that in 93 for the reasons stated above.
The number of motorcycle fatalities in this state is fairly low.
I was surprised to see that NC is actually 8th in the nation in
motorcycle fatalities. Reference. I suspect we have a lot shorter
riding season here. (I used to ride year round when I lived and
commuted in Boston. You ain't a real biker till you do 75 mph
on a 10 degree day.)
Anyway, there are some days I really get the itch, so I can
understand your dilemma.
Roscoes are over-rated anyway.

Now let me get this straight.
Real bikers ride Kawasakis at 75 mph in Boston in 10 degree Fahrenheit weather AND Roscoes are overrated.
Thank you for the amusing if not highly credible information.

Thor doesn't own a Roscoe. Why do we need more stuff that we'll never play? |

errr, Gard, I mean. Your sarcasm meter might have a sticky
needle, though. Better take it to a tech and have a pro
set up done on it.
But just in case, I was fanning the
'Bike or Roscoe?'
'Bike or Roscoe?'
'Bike or Roscoe?'
dilemma for CrashClint.
I can get some good mileage out of this, him being a Dallas fan and all. He'll need
something to obsess about.

Not a nibble on the fretless though, its dead in there.
I almost had a great used Roscoe deal going. Only catch is I
would have to learn to play left handed.

I apologize for the sarcastic post. In retrospect it was a bit short. I should've followed up with a lighter comment.

Roscoes are over-rated anyway. | That fatality rating has no doubt something to do with the Tail of the Dragon at Deal's Gap. I haven't had the pleasure, living in Ca and all, but we've got plenty of scariness over here.

Doug | Ouch!
Any friend of Mr. Lewis is a friend of mine. Nuff said.
Edit: The 'real biker' comment goes back to my Massachussetts days in the late 70's. They used to register bikes beginning Jan first every year, and you had to go down in person to the
registry to get a new plate.
The plates were set up like this:
A 123
X
B ###
X
...
Z ###
X
The waiting line at the registry was a major PITB, so you didn't go get a AX number unless you were actually going to ride the sucker. I always had one, and because the commute up Route 3
(now I-93) from Quincy to Everett was so bad, I took the bike as long as there was no snow or ice on the road. The inside of your thighs had to be able to take some pain in February, for sure.
There is a mailman in town who commutes from Pawtucket RI on an old BMW every day. He has a heated electric suit though. Still, I'll give him credit, guy's got stones.
Anyway, hopefully we can keep CC entertained during his recovery.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: Wake Forest, NC | | | A little update. Since August I have been having sever pain in my right knee. For months I have been telling the Ortho that something is wrong only to hear that it is all due to the broken femur.
I could hardly walk, the movement from heel to toe would almost stop me in my tracks where I couldn't take a normal step. Well, I started seeing a different Ortho and described to him what I was experiencing the feeling of rubber bands popping when ever I would extend my knee. Since I have a titanium rod, they couldn't do an MRI, but the doctor had worked with a similiar case in the past.
This past Wednesday, the doctor operated and removed 3 of the 4 screws. It seemed on screw near my knee was longer than the rest. So this whole time the LCL was constantly rubbing against the screw head causing it to start to fray. Well the Doctor removed that screw and banded the ligamint back together and the pain in my knee has all but faded away. They had to cut some 1-1/2" incisions to remove the screws and I am feeling by the time they heal I will be walking normal again.
I just want to say thanks for all you prayers and thoughts!

Clint | Awesome Clint!
We're just glad that it wasn't more serious than it was! It could have been so much worse.

Their website was hosted by their previous management company and I only have two weeks to get the new one up and running before they completely shut down the website which would not be a good thing. This association's online bookstore does $300,000.00 a year in sales and they have like 3 databases online that have to be combined into one and an upcoming conference where the members will be registering online. This is an international association with about 5,000 members. Along with this, we added 8 more employees so I have had to put together 8 complete systems and software along with my regular duties.
I will seriously be ready for a Roscoe trip when this is all over.
Thanks for the kind words Joe!!! |
