I play all kinds of music all fingerstyle.. I like the treble sound but not over the top. I can't seem to get rid of the overdriven sound on these current strings it came with.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

There are several threads on strings...just search within this roscoe forum...
I like DR Fatbeams...but they lose the top end quick...A lot of folks like the Black beauties....
Shows us some pics...any idea on the pups/preamp/woods?

Shows us some pics...any idea on the pups/preamp/woods? | i sent an email asking for info on my bass with the serial number however it may be to old to show up in their databass. i believe the preamp is aguilar aswell as the pickups.
as far as the overdriven sound goes, what i meant is i constantly get a distorted sound when playing, from mild to heavy depending on how i adjust the pre and my tc electronics rh220, i like distortion but i'd like to get a smooth lowend sometimes.
i sound like a newbie but i've been playing for 20+ years just not familiar with all the terms and how to describe it |

I'm gonna admit a goof I did in case it helps you Roscoes input jack has a tight receiver, and I've not had the bass plugged in all the way a couple times. I plugged it in where I "thought" was in but there was still one last click.
So now that I've admitted my ignorace, I shall back away slowly and hope nobody notices
God Bless, Ray

I've Daddario Prosteels on mine ATM, they're ok, nothing special, won't be getting them again, can I help it.
I generally like Rotosounds, or Dunlops.
I've SIT's on my fretless, sounds great, but I've not tried them on fretted. |

Other than that:
*the Aggie doesn't have a trim pot so it couldn't be that ...
*I suspect that you've changed the batteries......(and it's already been mentioned)
*I have seen a defective Aggie preamp module cause distortion
That's my .02 cents worth! |

That's my .02 cents worth! | i put brand new batteries in it when i brought it home. i'm pretty sure tube tone is all the way off, i noticed theres a little hole with some kind of adjustment screw on the back electronics cover, i didn't touch it. |

Have you taken off the access cover to confirm that the bass does indeed have an Aggie OBP-3?
I re-read your previous post and you state that you "believe that the pre is Aguilar as well as the P/U's". Aguilar doesn't make P/U's. I suspect that the P/U's are Bart and the pre may be Bart as well. If so, turn the trim pot down (CCW) and see if that helps your distortion problem. |

thanks for the info on the trim pot, I'll try it out and report back. |

The records are a bit sketchy before about 5K, that's about when Keith started putting everything into a computer file....if you can post some pics of the body, front & back, I should be able to tell you what you've got!
Glad Joe helped sort out the preamp thing, definitely let us know if turning down the gain on the pre helps with the distortion issue.

Thanks for info Gene! I did not know that .... | Basses and a string line would round it all out I suppose.

The answer (assuming you don't want that sound, which is definitely cool for some styles) is to turn down the bass and/or play a bit lighter.
+1 on Fat Beams - killer fat sound on the Roscoe.
