The Roscoes tend to have a great midrange presence. It was just too much midrange for my liking. This was about five or six years ago. If I am misrepresenting, please feel free to correct me.
I play with DR Nickle medium Low Riders.
Edit: LOL. I looked back at this thread. I posted # 19 & 26 in 2006 about the black beauties.

I need to look into some of the K3 Dragon Skins which I believe are the same with a clear coating (or red or blue) for my new fretless which needs nickel coloured strings to look right
The real reason I've come to post in this thread however... I've just thrown a set of TI Jazz Flats on my SKB after noting Greg's thoughts having put them on both his fretless and now King Koa also. I'd used them before on non-Roscoe basses and knew I liked them but I had no idea the combination would be this good.
Seriously, this is a bass I had up for sale because nice as it was it wasn't quite what I wanted from it. The TI flats have given it a new identity and it's perfect. Burpy, thumpy when you want it to be but by no means dead (lots of zing available in fact, with the treble flat or boosted). It sounds awesome. I could pretty much leave it set flat and panned all the way to the neck pickup all day long. Pan to the bridge and watch out... this thing will take heads off, which is not at all what you'd expect from spanish cedar and flats
Needless to say, it's off the market and not going anywhere |

What I need is the Silver Stars, but it looks like they only come in a medium gauge set. I might have to see how the Black Beauties look when I take a set off another bass. |

When I first put the Dragon Skins on me Roscoe they sounded and felt great, but man were they short lived.. So I'm back on the SIT Power Steel round wounds on both the fretted and fretless Roscoes.. They're *definitely* attractive price-wise. How do they last? |

Got TI's on my fretless though, immense.
Nothing but mixed results with DR coated strings on anything.

I've rotated in most everything else out there too but always return to the XL D'Addario's.
I really dig the TI Jazz Flats too Jeff. Great strings! They are expensive but they last forever! If I had 2 more Roscoe's I'd probably string them up with a set of TI Jazz flats. |

I am very happy with the Black Beauties which have supplanted the stock D'Addarios as my go to nickel round string. I'm going to try the Dragon Skins at the 3 for 2 price, since it is the feel and not the sound that has always kept me away from stainless strings. If I don't like them I know I can always go back to BBs or D'Addario. |
