What strings on your Roscoe 5er?

Hi, What brand/type strings are you currently using on your 5 string Roscoes?

Thanks,
Bill

I had DR Fatbeams on my former 5'er, light gauge (40-120).

I have the former said bass and it still has the Fatbeam light guage strings. I just ordered a fresh set of Fatbeams to try them out, but I normally use DR Black Beauties.

I usually use D'addario but I just put a set of black beauties on, and I think I like them.

Much brighter than I expected. Still missing some of the transient highs, but the low mids are great.

Still looking for the perfect string. I used to use the slow wounds, but they don't make them anymore.

such is life.

Slow Wounds used to be the string I used on every thing then they quit making them. I haven't bought D'Addarios but one time since and that was when I tried the Pro Steels.

D'Addario nickel roundwounds. All my basses wear them except my P which has Chromes.

Everyone seems to love the Black Beauties. I just bought a set of fatties for my 6'er, after those die off I'll get a set of BB's.

I used to use d'addario xl's but I just wasn't loving the sound - then I snagged some dr low's and man, made me love my Roscoe so much more! (I'd been hemming & hawing over selling it previously. Amazing what strings can do!)

Yeah, me too. I venture off every once in a while but other than the DR BB's nothing else has kept my attention. In the end though I always end back with the D'addarrio XL's.

I prefer the mid tone and feel of the D'addario XL's. They're also a bit easier on the frets IMO.

I prefer SS DR and Zon strings on my Roscoes.

I really dig just about any DR SS made string...Fat Beams, Hi Beams, Lo Riders, Black Beauties...they all are great. The BBs are very cool because they last so long.

I use DR Black Beauties too, but am going to be trying the DR Fat Beams on my next string change, which probably won't be for a long while since the BB's are still perfectly fine as I only play for church twice a month and use another bass to practice.

I recently put on some Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys because I had them laying around and it was time for a string change. Ewwww!!! I'm not liking something they are doing in the mid frequencies. Very honky somehow. The standard D'addario XLs were much better. I might have to try some DR BBs next.

You should . D'addario's are okay for me, but I don't know if it was just the particular set that came with my Roscoe but.... they died in less than 2 or 3 weeks, and I had played the bass something like... 4 or 5 times no more than 45 minutes each time during that time period.

The BB's, however, have been on my bass since October I think... or maybe November, but they still seem to be fine.

DR Lo-Rider Nickel, light gauge for me

The stock D'Addario strings are ok too, especially for the cost. They'd probably be great for me if the gauges were different, but they're not so far off that I won't use up the stock I have. I've bought them in lighter gauges before and liked them, so maybe that's the answer once I get through the strings I have.

+1

I like D'Addario's tonally, but the tension of the standard set is way too much for my play. I do really like the Light gauge set pretty well though.
