Question Who's Playing New Years Eve gigs tonight?

So who's Playing New Years Eve gigs tonight?

I haven't done one in years but I remember back in the day never having a New Years eve off.

Even after the years of private New Years party gigs I ended up play special New Years eve services at church for several years.
The church that go to now doesn't have New Years eve services so I'm usually at home watch the TV special in Time Square.

Not me this year. Last year was a back breaker. Money was great; but we had to be set up by 4:00, play 7 sets, got home at 4:30AM after load out.
Oh yeah, there was the matter of hauling all the gear up a flight of stairs (that had a 180 degree turn halfway up).
I'm gettin' too old for that.

Have Great New Year everyone!

Stayin' home tonight...it's amateur hour on NYE, and it would take a HUGE payday for me to even consider going out.

Rather be home with my family to ring in the New Year, anyhow.

My first New Years off, in a long time.
Great pay day, but with early set up.
And late break-down, makes for a long day.
Will chill at home.

Me! Low-ish money, but it's exactly 3 miles from my house. And someone else moves the PA!

I'm just bringing me, my Roscoe, a Nordy, and my rig!

I am supposed to be, but with the blizzard we're having, interstates are closed down right now. SO, I don't know if we'll be making it for tonight's gig or not. It's about 50 miles west of Fargo (Valley City, ND). It's supposed to be a 2-nighter, but the way it's looking, we'll only be able to make tomorrow night. Which sucks, because it pays VERY well, and the place we're playing at is a blast to play at on regular weekends, so this one should be insane.

(Sigh) I'll be out there trying to make a joyful noise. It's a sub gig for a friend who's stranded out in the western end of our winter-stricken state. I wouldn't do it for anybody else or on any other gig. It's a bunch of locals I played tons of nights with back in the day, and they're still doin' the old-school R&B and soul to death so I know exactly what I'm in for. These guys are smokin' players, so I'll be like the tail on a kite all night long, hanging on for dear life. Should make the time go by fast, in more than one way.

It's at a hotel whose kitchen has the best calamari this side of Little Italy; I offered to accept a night's supply of it as payment, and I hope they take me up on it.

I don't have to haul a rig in if I don't want to - his is already in the truck. He's got nice cabs, though I may drag along my rack so I don't have to change the settings on his. We'll see how ambitious I feel at about 7:00.

It sounds like a pretty posh party, so hopefully the puke won't be more than ankle-deep.

Be safe if you're heading out tonight, and a Happy New Year to all.

-Dave

^ Hey, I remember "Whale Poop" , good to hear from ya dude.

My gig is tomorrow night and

New band, fun gig and low stress. Roscoe, Gallien Kruger and Lava Cables. Band does lots of Meters, TOP, Joe Jackson, Reggae, Phish-type of stuff. Bar has a lot of college girls and it's in a swank Cape Cod town (Chatham). Hopefully fun.

Tonight- neighborhood party with friends, chinese food, beer and more beer, about 30 steps from my front door.

Be safe, have fun. Happy New Year all.

Well, we just had to officially cancel ours for tonight. ND isn't reopening I-94 west of Fargo today, since round two of the blizzard is starting this afternoon. Most bands in the area are having to do the same thing. Some bars in town aren't even opening up today.

So we'll try to make it for tomorrow night at least.......

Out of the 4 places that I've worked in the past, 1 is closed and the others have DJ's. Oh well that's past my bedtime anyway.

Have to play to cap off a very busy year. Doing a private party up in Topanga Canyon for a bunch of aging hipsters and hippies. Put together a variation of the nostatic trio +. Me and the keyboard player, a drummer we've played with on and off over the years (who is also my son's drum teacher), one of our regular sax players, and the guitarist from my funk band. A set of jazz, then our take on "dance" music - not in our usual repertoire. The sax is handling some of the heads for the rock stuff, and I'm singing lead vox on the rest Will take the Roscoe pair.

And we're back on, at a different venue, for MUCH more money. Heading east into Minnesota instead. A venue we play at had their scheduled band cancel on them, so they called us, and offered a BIG payday, plus motel rooms, if we could come and play there. Since our PA truck is only 15 miles away, and our drummer lives in that town, it's just a matter of me and the other guitar player getting down there.

So wish me luck. Gonna venture out shortly to make the 60 mile trek eastward.

Subbing on a show for a friend. He's being a good dude and splitting his pay with me, as the show isn't paying much extra for NYE. I'll be home on the couch with the wife by 11pm, first time in about 12 years I've seen the year tick over with her. Cool!

Good luck, Ryan! Dave, great to see you posting - have a blast.

I'm back at the Ritz-Carlton on the coast. Hangin' with the rich & famous. This will be my sixth straight year there. Same leader, sometimes small group, sometimes large. Sometimes in the ballroom, others...like this year, in the lounge. I prefer this setup - lots of musical breathing room, and we can invite family and friends.

Happy New Year, everyone. Be safe and warm, and enjoy.

I'll ring in the new year thanking God for many a bountiful blessing. Including all the friendships I've developed here over this last year. I hope to strengthen those and add more.

I'll be groovin' Roscoe in hand too.

Happy New Year Guys! Be safe and take care of yourselves!

God Bless, Ray

Annnnd, we didn't make it. Interstate was re-closed heading east. I know the back roads to get there, but the blizzard was already starting round two, so we turned back around. And a huge bonus was it took us nearly 45 minutes to get back down our street to get home----drifts were literally taller than our Mountaineer, and only one lane through them. And people with little cars still thought they could make it through, so they were stuck and had to be pushed out so the 4x4's could get through.
