| Clint,
Putting a string tuning guide on the pick up covers is a GREAT idea! I was able to get the strings tuned to "G", "A", and "D", but how do you tune a string to "R"? Any tips?
Back on subject.......
Five basses in my house....Six if you count my kids' Fernandez Elephant Bass....
Two have wood covers, three do not. Wood covers look cool on the guitar stand. I ordered the two with wood covers because I could. Couldn't order the Roscoe with wood covers so I didn't. Didn't cause me any emotional damage and it's a damn fine bass. Other than that covers is covers.
One has the flip out battery compartment. I like it, it works fine. Could see it used more widely. Actually, the flip out battery compartment also has a wood cover. This is one of the basses that gets the "shoulda used the back wood on the top" comments. The other cool thing about the flip out compartments is that the connect points are built right in. You don't have to deal with those PITA snap on connectors.
My kids' Fernandez bass also has the flip out battery compartment. Cool for them, 'cause they don't have to find me when it's time to change the battery.
Two of my basses are a brand that snacks on batteries like popcorn. The battery covers require removing four screws. Bummer. Both basses also have external power supply, so this bassist saves on batteries, and time to manipulate screws on battery covers, by playing those puppies plugged in. At least the holes have threaded inserts so I'm not concerned about the integrity of the wood.
Peace,
James
