Versatile bass player for "world" music/silent movies (SF Bay Area)

I am leaving my current band for work overload reason.

This is a bay area based band where David, the lead (multi instrumentalist, guitar/string) is working at Stanford. Rehearsal are in Palo Alto.
Gigs are all over the place, from San Francisco to Fremont.
The music is very eclectic, and could be classified as "world" but I like to describe it as jazz with middle eastern twist.

Also, this band does, under the influence of David, a movie scholar, live soundtracks for silent movies. This is pretty exciting if you have never done it.

Looking for someone professional (defined as: on time, no smoking or drinking during rehearsal and sober for gigs) with fretless electric (and double bass is a plus) chops. Fretted should work as well. Personal amplification required (frankly, no need for a 810...)
Gigs are pretty much every other week. Rehearsal is preparation for the next gig. Movies can be long and tedious... require endurance (a good thing).

I'd say that you need some level of experience and maturity to play in this band. Probably no beginners.
If you like metal or punk, probably don't apply but that could be an interesting influence if you can tame it.
I don't think age is a problem.

Contact: David Giovacchini at dggiova@stanford.edu

PM me if you need more inside details before you talk to David.

Sounds like an excellent gig. I used to play Middle Eastern music with some fellow Stanford grad students years back. Tempting, but I'm busy for the next couple of months so not sure if I can swing it. Still...will send you a pm.
