Another Transcription Question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Janek,

First off a big thanks for your contribution to this forum. I have learnt a lot from reading through your various posts.

I have a question regarding your transcription process.

I am curious as to whether you analyse your transcriptions of various solos?

That is do you sit down and analyse how the notes that comprise the solo relate to the harmony ( thinking in terms of concepts such as intervals, chord tones, modes, guide tones ets) or do you just learn solos to connect the sound of the solo to the fretboard without giving too much thought to the underlying harmony putting more of an emphasis on the ear and muscle memory side of things rather than the theoretical approach?

Thanks

Hi friends, just a few days ago I have had a legal complication with my old medical transcriptionist. So I was wondering is there any professional association for medical transcriptionist? Also do you know the national requirements to become a medical transcriptionist? A good website with all this information would really help.

yeah, someone actually spent the time joining a bass forum, knowing that it's a bass forum, and answering questions about their bass playing in order to post this medical question here.

For the sake of the health insurance paying public, I hope this person never makes it into medical school.

on the transcription front.....

I do analyze certain parts of solos, and see what some harmonic relationships are. I quite often what to get inside the head of the soloist and see where the approach was coming from.

having accumulated a lot of language through transcription I can hear many shapes and sounds, and know what they are without having to sit down and analyze them. you ear will develop the more you do. don't force anything, and before you know it you'll be noticing lots of similar phrases and shapes in things you're analyzing, and they be integrated into your playing a lot faster.

Easy,

Janek
