Bass Line

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey I am playing the bass in a talent show for someone and she is doing two songs, "Make some noise" and "Gotta go my own way". Im doing it as a favor for a little girl. And they are hooking me directly up with the PA and they have a great PA and it will sound amazing when I play.....but the thing is im gonna need something really COOL to play. So i was wandering if you or someone else good give me some tips on how to make up the best bass line for the two songs. Thanks

why don't you take the original bass lines from the two songs? learn them from the albums, and then add a little to them if you think they need it.

Easy,

Janek

There isnt really a bass line for the song...Like all i found were the chords for the guitar and i dont really want to play that i wont to play something different and in the song the bass player just hits the string for every chord and its really plain. And if im gonna be hooked up a to a great PA system like that one, then im playing play something really sweet. And i just dont kno wat it is right now. And im not really good at making my own bass lines.

Todays Tip

Listen to the music!

1st poster:

Listen to the recording of the songs and all your questions will be answered. (hopefully )

2nd poster:

Listen to recordings of songs, figure out the stuff you like and incorporate it into your playing, wash, rinse, repeat while trying to come up with your own stuff.

well basslines don't just appear out of thin air. We're not all born with an ability to create basslines.

You have to study bass lines that have come before you and get a vocabulary of styles together so you have a starting point for creating your own.

The PA system you're playing through should have no bearing on what you might play. Play the music, serve the song, be open, and be musical. Being any kind of a musician is not about being technically clever because you have a loud speaker to play through, it's about interacting with the musicians around you, and with your listening audience.

Easy,

Janek
