comp. selection

My BBE pre-amp went south on so I started using my portaflex. Although it sounds GREAT but I'm not crazy about using it for live gigs without a compressor. My question is whether a comp for a PA or guitar will suffice or should I look for something aimed at a lower frequency.

well you're asking a guy who hates gear. I don't mean that in a bad way at all, but I really am just not into it.

My thing is pure Class A pre amp into a power amp, into the speaker cabinet. anything else is really just limiting your ability to express yourself with the wood, the strings, and the fingers. The only time there's ever compression put on my sound is when I'm in the studio, and it might be appropriate for a track. I never use it live.

What are you looking for from a compressor? that might be the best place to start.
