Talking Ear Training + boaters

Hi janek,

really enjoyed the show at boaters - i see you are getting into using singers in your music - oli rockberger is certainly a good one!

I was just wondering about your views on ear training - it always amazes me when i hear a pro demonstrating their ears by playing back a complex phrase to someone!

Do you go in for a transcription based appoach or are there other exercises you will use to develop ears such as specific interval recognition stuff?

i've also been trying to put tunes in all keys - i play sax as well and putting solos or bop heads in all the keys seems to open up your ears subconciously also i've found!

Thanks!

I think that most of my ear training has come from transcription. Just constantly repeating things over and over, and writing them down, transferring them to my instrument etc etc.... it all helps to fine tune the ear. And then of course just being around other musicians and learning on the job. Just spending time playing, and spending time with your instrument always helps.

Easy,

Janek
