Hi,
I'm interested in your opinion on Manley DI, any experiences? I'm planing to use it on next gig along with my EBS compressor pedal (and few others) and through my Hartke 3500. Also I want to try it in studio, for sound warming, shaping etc...
Also, whats your opinion on Marcus Miller Jazz bass, 4 string version? I found it to be greatly responsive, beautiful sounding and feeling machine!
Finally, I learned that you re not messing with jazz bass types and replicas, but have you played Clover Apeiron H5? ( its very nice German bass )
Thanks for your time!

D,

I'm not really a gear guy to answer these questions I'm afraid.

I don't use any compressors or DI's live for my sound at all. It's completely flat, just the sound of the fingers and the wood, which is what it's all about.

I would strongly recommend not using any of that stuff you mentioned, and working on developing you're own sound, vibe, and voice with the basic tools available to you with the bass and your fingers.

I would suggest using a rig that comprises of a Power amp, and a pre amp, and work with it flat. 4x10 on the floor is my preference. The hartke is a little too hi fi for my taste, I like the ability to get a slightly darker tone out of the bass and those rigs don't have the depth for me. This is, of course, my presonal opinion. They really suit some people's playing, just not mine.

Marcus gets a great sound out of that bass, and I have played it before. But I really couldn't tell you too much about it.

I can only recommend the fender basses I've played. Any vintage P and J basses, and I really dug the new pino paladino, Reggie Hamilton, and jaco Pastorius custom shop models.

easy,

Janek

Thanks Janek!
Well, Hartke 3500 is what I got, and I like it . Its very FAIR amp - its how you sound and play and what bass you got. Im going through 4x10 my self... (When Im doing big venues though, Im using Ampeg SVT 3 with 8x10.)

And Im not into hi tec, just using few pedals, like comp.,bassballs and rarely some octaver... its what the style of my music calls for
