Hadrien Feraud

Wow! I'm pretty sure that's the best way to start this. Having just stumbled across the video of you twon playing on youtube, just wow! I mean well yeah we all know about you guys but one of the 1st things I can say is from the videos I've seen of you I don't think I've seen you enjoying yourself quite as much as you seem to be in the video with Hadrien. I'm sure we all are in awe of the both of you being members here on TB, and I'm certain, like me even as a young player, young and old we are all inspired by the both of you as hardworking, musically aware and conscious MUSICIANS! Or at least appreicate the both of you. Well anyway having seen this video i was inspired to post my first entry on talkbass despite being a member on here for a while, with the huge compliment being paid to you that this was the first time a bass based video had made me smile quite this since watching Stanley, Marcus and Victor break into 'beat it' when i came across the other video of you two playing... Yep 'beat it'! Just awesome just made me purely joyous haha, i really seem up some ar**s now but i dont care! Anyway i feel this is a fair place for us all just to give credit where its due and just appreciate the two major talents and i urge people to watch these videos, and just so people don't think i'm wasting a thread, janek, i would like to ask your honest opinion of Hadrien, his style, musicianship and how you actually just felt playing with him? i had a better post ready but got disconnected but still... Just awesome the pair of you thanks for inspiring me!

Regards

Aidan

well Had is a big force in this community for the bass guitar. he's an immense talent with an incredibly high level of musicianship, and can hear pretty much anything. So when you combine those things in one person it really produces quite the player.

We had fun in Los Angeles at the bass player live event, and it was great to play in a setting like that where it was musical and people were listening to each other. So often when you have two people playing the same instrument at the same time it can get into some pretty unmusical scenes, but this time was really fun.

And of Course otmaro ruiz and tom brechlein are powerhouses in music, and it was a joy to play with them.

Easy,

Janek

Well there was certainly nothing unmusical about it, it genuinely made me smile haha. Sorry to take a different direction with the thread but i thought it would save clogging up the forum... What tips do you have with learning to read music? I mean i can recognise notes when i read slowly and out of time... but i'm not sure how to progress to recognising rhythms and whether i should learn alongside the accompanying music orr? i'm going to purchase some trombone sheet music in hoping to progress... I can play straight 8ths and quarters reading and stuff like i have to reading your magazine columns (love them by the way, especially the giant steps one) but i guess just rests and things confuse me... I don't think ive been very specific and ive just waffled sorry but essentially, any tips on learning to read? Haha sorry, thanks very much in advance...

I think I remeber joking around with Janek about how he was tearin' it up so hard that even Hadrien had to stop for a second. haha!!!! Janek is really the most soulful of bass players out here right now in my opinion. I look foward to having him as in instructor...Ya you!!! Later.....

yes, there are a lot of aspects of that in part 2, and more performances too.

Great interview! It's very interesting that Hadrien has amazing facility on bass, but composes on the keyboard, which could contribute to his command of harmony. Very cool!!! In my feeble attempts at transcribing, I always use the keyboard (trust me-I'm no keyboardist!). It's challengng and refreshing at the same time.

Thanks for the videos Janek. The Juan Alderete one was great too. I think I'm never going to watch the 2 videos you did with Juan because I'll go out and buy all those pedals and become broke!!

Ha Ha, anyway thanks again for the interview.

P.S If I could make one tiny request, I know you're going to be touring in continental Europe soon, any chance, you could get a Gary Willis interview done ??

Thanks,
Vibhas.

I think I'm going to see Gary in London in a few weeks, I'll give him a call and see if he's up for doing an interview.
