Have you had a chance to gig/shed with Kurt Rosenwinkel?

I know you are tight with Mark Turner, who he is also tight with, but wonder if you have played with him. I don't know if he thinks upright is the hippest form of bass, because he's not recorded with electric.. but at this point I'm just speculating.

IMO he is completely cutting edge but never loses the ability to stay melodic. Favorite guitar player on the planet right now.

Opinions and experiences with Rosenwinkel?

Matt

I've never worked or jammed with Kurt. I would love to very much, I'm a huge fan, and I think he's done some really fantastic things with his writing and his voice.

I've met him a couple of times, but I'm sure he wouldn't remember, we've never hung out at all. And now he lives in East Berlin in Germany so there isn't that much of a chance to hang in NYC anymore.

I've studied his music a lot, and made many transcriptions of his solos. There is some really heavy playing and improvising in there.

There is some electric bass on one of his record. I know the name of the tune that I remember is Blue Line or something like that. I think he might have played the bass part himself, but I can't remember.

Easy,

Janek

Janek, excellent. I'm sure Mark would have mentioned your name, but I understand Kurt is out in Europe and things are not like they used to be. The last interview I read with him, he stated he moved to Switzerland?

Either way, he is one of my biggest influences and I find my ear expanding everytime I sit down and just listen to his writing and playing. Glad we share it in common! I will stay tuned to what you're doing because I will not be surprised when you do collaborate together.
