help buying new bass

i have an 11 year old son who wants to learn how to play bass, could you give me any advice on what a good bass to buy him.

well depending on how developed he is, ie. what size instrument he can hold, I would look into some of the fender starter kits.

make sure you get him a good teacher, and also don't spend too much money on instruments initially as taste and development change rapidly.

wouldn't jump to say "no" so quickly. generally, no. but some purists consider a "bass" an upright or double bass. bass guitar is specifically a bass that looks like a guitar.

when the majority of people say bass they're referring to a bass guitar. if someone is referring to an upright they usually say so. i found it best to call an upright a "standup" bass if you're talking to an upright player. they like when you call it that.
