I think I'll leave that one alone...... I actually work around some of these people and wish to continue doing so....

and at the end of the day, there's nothing there that nate said that was wrong. He's totally spot on and on the money. Whether or not you like his presentation of the facts is a personal preference, but he's right. And his experience is what matters when you listen to what he has to say. I have the upmost respect for the guy.

There are First call (A list) studio players and the food chain goes down from there, the session scene has changed over the last several years but at a certain level everything that's aid in that DVD s true. the warm up song was just filler for the DVD but there is a certain amount of jamming that goes on in session with the budget to include those type of players

Maybe I missed the joke.....nothing was said that really wasn't spot on.
Sometimes it isn't about your "chops".
It's your vibe.

Fail to see the unintentional humor myself, thought the video was interesting.

granted, the vibe of that video is a little dated, but pretty much all of that stuff is true, regardless of if you find some aspect of it ironic... in my little circle here in nyc, the guys who are doing all the indie sessions are great players with great attitudes.

That's from Nathan's Video The Business of Bass. Frankly, I don't see what's so funny. If there is anyone who knows what it takes and what it's like to be an A list player, it's Nathan. Back in the day, I had the opportunity to sit in on a recording session with Nathan that was run by the late great Gene Page (Gene invited me). Nathan is a true professional who not only has the skillz to get it done, his attitude is infectious! There is a reason why he has worked for so many people-dude has what it takes and he's cool to be around!!!

A Groove is a Terrible Thing to Waste!

I found this video very informative and inspiring, so awesome to see the different musicians close, getting it explained by all those stars, I really like Nathan East and totally understand their point ... but couldn't help but notice a tiny little bit of repetition, rubbing it in.

"YA WE ARE THE FRIGGIN A LIST AND WE ARE SMILING HARD WHILE PLAYING"

But maybe it's just that I've watched that video too often. I love it :-)

Um . . . . everything said in that video is true. You going to doubt Nathan and Quincy and Lionel?

I've played with plenty of amazing musicians. Some of them are super cool people, some of them are drugged-out, a-hole prima donnas. Some of my favorite people to play with aren't even at that very top level of chops. But guess who gets the calls?
