I just clocked this too. Commiserations....you sounded great together. He was an amazing guitarist.

Much too young.

I'm sure sorry to hear this. I was very much influenced by the Sanborn stuff back in the day. He seemed like a cool, if troubled cat.

No way! I was a fan since the original (daytime) Letterman show. He was probably the one that inspired the group's original name: Worlds Most Dangerous Band. When Paul Shaffer was asked to name the person who made this statement "I work hard & I play very hard" he attributed it to Hiram Bullock. He was an intense musician who always seemed to be 'on'. We will miss you Hiram.

Man it's been a tuff couple of years for the world of amazing musicians. With inspirational people like Elvin Jones, Michael Brecker, and now Hiram leaving the scene, the world feels a little less cool

Hiram was great, and will be greatly missed. My condolences to you Janek, and to all his family and friends. I met Hiram a few times at NAMM, a really great cat. I saw him play a few times, and two really stand out so I'd like to share.

First time was 1979 at the Shaboo Inn in Willimantic CT. I went to see Spyro Gyra as they were touring in support of Morning Dance. The opening band was called The 24th Street Band, and it was really the Letterman Band minus Paul Shaffer three years before there was "The World's Most Dangerous Band". It was Hiram, Will Lee, Steve Jordan and a keyboard player player I can't quite recall (not Shaffer). The band, of course, absolutely KILLED, and Hiram just ripped the place apart. Also present that night, but just as a fellow audience member and sitting right next to me, was Michael Brecker. We were hoping for a sit-in, but he was just there to chill with his friends.

The second time I saw and heard Hiram it was all too brief. I checked out the Gil Evans Orchestra at Sweet Basil in the late 80's, and although Hiram was on the bill, he didn't show until the band had already started "Little Wing", which was his feature. He literally ran in, plugged in his guitar via wireless, jumped back in the kitchen (musta been hungry) where he started his solo. Came outta the kitchen playing beautifully, and once again ripped the place apart. Awesome.

Anyway...those are my memories. I know you and others had the great good fortune to share many, many more.

Just wanted to come in to say that I'm very sorry to all that knew Hiram musically and beyond, including you Janek. I heard that the service for Hiram last night was wonderful.
