At one point you were requested to improvise over standards, and you were hesitant. But I found this to be the biggest eye opener for me. You took the time to say how you were using other tonal centers to sound "out" then how to resolve. It was really affective for me, to hear how you think about it. My thought process wasn't getting me where I wanted to be, you helped a lot. Thanks so much for being willing to share your knowledge.
My question is, does this concept of implying other tonal centers work well for walking bass lines? What's your process for constructing these? After chord tones and neighbor tones are identified, how do you link changes together to maintain a direction without sounding redundant? With a walking line, you usually aren't the center of attention, so does implying other tonics draw too much attention, should this be reserved for solos/melodies?
Thanks Janek! I really appreciate what you're doing!

| | | | New podcasts?! Hey Janek, it's been awhile since your last podcast i was wondering when you may be able to get the next one out? Also i was wondering if you could share what resources you used to influence your melodic playing and where would you recommend an intermediate bass player to start learning a more melodic way of playing? Also i was wondering what you define melody as and what makes a bassline/part melodic? |

Cool that you shared stage with Little Dragon! Håkan is a friend of mine and we are neighbours so I was a little surprised hearing that in your podcast.
And also, very nice podcast! You made great points there. I´m getting a little bit tired of those ultra fast bassist with nothing to say so it´s great that you are always making music when you play. Great job! |

I really like you turning us on to what your listening to - Little Dragon, Ray LaMontagne, Patty Griffin etc. I am going to start checking these folks out. Also listening to work out ideas w/improvisation, chords etc is great. Simple to complex, I find it very helpful w/my own playing |

I'd like to see more guys do what you are doing, and the way you do it.
Truly some of the best I've seen/heard. Please do not stop doing the podcasts.
Looking forward to hearing the new studio album also. I've only recently discovered your music. Really enjoy your sound. Great phrasing. Very tasty.
Is Pat Metheny one of your influences?
Do you do any work with fretless?
Do you plan on doing a tour in Canada sometime in the future?
Cheers
