Hi Janek,

I've always admired your playing, but I was curious about your "live" sound. I notice that your sound is very wet (your recordings and teaching vids), do you have this much reverb in your live sound when you play with your group? can it get lost in the mix with this type of sound in a live situation?

Congrats on your new Fodera!!! I would love to hear your full evaluation on this bass. it sounds from what I hear, is exactly the same specs as your old one. But i'm sure its sounds and feels maybe just a little different?

Speaking of your new bass. How did you end up stringing it. B-G ? What made you ultimately decide on 26 frets for both your basses? I ordered my first Fodera MG last month and I'm getting 24 cuz Jason said I need room for slap and tone of slap. Why did you decided 26?

I remember hearing Janek in an interview saying that in his own music, he never slaps.

Here's a video of the new bass with me talking a little bit about it: YouTube - The new Fodera

I use some delay on my sound when I'm playing on my own or when I'm soloing. It just depends on the situation.

And of course the times when I'm onstage playing a simple groove and working as a bass player with no effects at all rarely find themselves onto youtube, so the perception is that I use delay all the time.

point in case:

1. Old fodera - no effects: YouTube - VV Brown Game over @ Troubadour 5/12/10

2. P-Bass with subharmonic but no delay: YouTube - VV Brown - serial heartbreaker

3. P-Bass - no effects: YouTube - VV Brown Live @ The Troubadour 5/12/10 Shark In the Water

i have heard you with and with out efx and with fodera and your old wal... to me you always sound the same... like janek

you even have that distinct sound on a fretted instrument it tends to sound like fretless some times... and i haven't heard any one sound like that before or after
