Hi. Cryogenica has been going for a little over a year and is starting to bare fruits, so we want to take it to the next level. My band uses Ableton Live running from a Mac Power Book as a backing track as we just cant find a drummer or a keyboardist. We also use EZ Drummer for the drum programming, as used by Devin Townsend on his Ziltoid album. Despite state of the art equipment, sound engineers always say our sound is 'thin'.

What can we do to get that backing track out with a rich deep sound?

I'm guessing that it's the quality of your raw drum sounds that is causing it to sound a little thin. You might want to try normalizing, mixing and mastering the tracks before you pump them through a PA system. There is also the variable of the PA system, and some of them just aren't cracked up to be pumping all kinds of backing tracks through. I have no idea of the venue type or size you're playing so it's a little hard to comment on that side of things.

When i produce a backing track for any show I normally spend some time and money with a good engineer in the studio working on the consistency of all the sounds throughout a live show. I don't know if you're budget allows for that, but that would be my recommendation if you want a fat sound for your shows.

Easy,

Janek
