| well first of all, I really don't think I'm the right person to be asking about metal EQ settings. I have done a couple of record dates with metal bands as a shadow player so to speak, but I hired someone to come in and help me with getting the right sound and using the right gear. What I will say is that it is important, no matter what style you're playing in, to get a good balance and relationship between each instrument live, And not to all occupy the same frequencies. A good relationship between the bass and the kick drum is super important for me when I'm playing any kind of groove based music, and I will always work with the engineer to figure out what is going to work best for the overall sound of the band.
I would send this over to my buddy Ray Riendeau, in his section of the ask a pro forum. I'm sure he can really get into this subject with you as I know he's a badass at what he does. he has so much experience with that sound, and is leap years ahead of me in that scene. drop him a line over there and I'm sure he can help.
Easy,
