MM5.3 and NJ5 wiring problems

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought a bass guitar on ebay, the bass arrived but with problems.

When the blender is in middle position, the sound/volume closed; The output is very very low even when I have my amp volume turned to 10/max; The active/passive is not significant ; I have the schematic diagram of the preamp but I cannot find the wiring diagram of the subject pickups. I have contacted Carey Norstrand and Marco of Aguilar, Norstrand suggested to come to this forum to looking for help as their MM5.3 is designed for MM, may be that is why no information can be supplied.

The bass switch/knobs placement are 1 volume, 1 blender, 1 mini switch for active/passive selection, 1 treble, 1 mid, 1 bass.

I have tried to contact the sellers for over one week but I have no reply from him. Can you help by give a good guidance on the wiring properly.

Here is a discriptions of the bass electronic by sellers:

" ELECTRONICS

:This bass has a great set up for the modern player. At the heart of this tone-beast is the OBP-3 preamp from Aguilar powered by an 18v battery bay. The 5 pots are Volume, Blend, Bass, Mid, Treble. The switch is for active/passive selection. The two pickups are both from Carey Nordstrand. The Neck Pickup is a thick triple coil MM5.3. It features a dummy coil on the bottom for silent single coil mode. The Bridge pickup is the traditional Nordstrand NJ5. Both of these together sound so great. It has such a clear low end and with the 18v bass boost it can make a room move. Even at the 24 fret there is still a good amount of punch and not that tinny piano tone. I am a builder but I am also a player and I know that even if a bass has great construction and sustain it won't sound good at all if it isn't paired with equally superb electronics. And visa verse, but this is certainly an instrument that contains the best of both. "

Thanks very much for your kind attention.
Tom

I dont have any pickup wiring diagram and not sure which color should go to which one.

out of the close to 200,000 members of this forum you came to just about the worst person to ask about anything gear related. I really hate gear, I know nothing about it, an do not want to know anything about it.

I can talk to you about melody, harmony, rhythm, composition, and anything else that has to do with actual music, but for gear you're going to have to look elsewhere.

I did post this PLEASE DO NOT POST GEAR QUESTIONS HERE and make it a sticky in the hopes that people would read it before posting questions that make no sense to me whatsoever.

what I will offer about your gear problem is this. buying basses from ebay that you have never played before will cause you problems. If you're a musician, then why do wiring diagrams and schematics of the instrument matter? sound comes from the fingers, the strings, the wood, and the soul. if there's a problem with something technology related, forget about working on it yourself, send it to be fixed by someone in your area and concentrate on the music you're going to play on it when it comes back.

Easy,

Janek

There is a section of the forum specifically related to this, under pickups and electronics, where you may be able to get some assistance, try posting there.
