Music licensing

Hi Janek, I was wondering if you license any of your music for films, TV, etc. If so, or if you know something about it, could you offer some advice? I write music and I'm looking to explore this in the near future.

Many thanks,

Steve

Steve,

the best thing you can have for your music for licensing is a publicist. I do some things like that, but it always comes about through someone like a publicist who has serious connections in the industry. They can make placement for films, commercials, tv etc...

I have also done a few things where I've licensed tracks from my first record to a big label for a compilation. I think it was capitol records, and a thing for Sony too....

But a publicist is definitely the way to go.

Easy,

Janek

there are also A&R-type services like TAXI and PumpAudio (who was recently bought out by Getty Images, who is rolling out a platform for music what they do for photos, called SoundTrack, which is in Beta testing now).

Thanks guys, very helpful. Janek, does a publicist typically take a percentage like a manager would?

a publicist will generally work on a salary. A good one here in the states can cost anything from $2000 a month upwards.

Easy,

Janek
