Hi,
I posted a similar thread in General but didn't get much help and I think you will be able to offer me some good advice. Some years back I completed a music degree, got burnt out and put the bass down for a couple of years. I now really want to make a decent go at it and am seeking direction, especially as far as networking. Myspace seems to be a good way to do it but am not sure what type of things I should put on it. I have put up a couple of rough slap pieces and a Charlie Parker piece (all solo) to show my playing but am wondering if this is the best way to do it. So how should I use Myspace once I have my page established? I feel like I have the skills to "cut it" but am just having trouble getting back in the loop, especially as it is a pretty "clicky" scene here in Sydney. Would appreciate any advice you can give in any way to help me with this. Thanks.

Hi,

thanks for your post.

I think when it comes to putting music on your page you have to ask yourself how you want to be heard. what is it that you're reaching for? what is it that you have to offer? and do you have something that shows what you really have to offer?

If you think you have something that really displays that then go ahead and put it up there. marketing is all about perception, and about targeting your audience. No good targeting anyone with Charlie Parker if you want to make money out of music, because that happened 60 years ago and is no longer original at all.

write your own music, record it, and search for something new. That's always what I tell myself and it's always my advice to people.

Easy,

Janek
