Playing pick bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I have played bass for a little while but just started using a pick. Now, I have already gone through 3 picks in a few days (****** picks, nevertheless) but I've noticed it eats away at the sides of the point, and I realise it's because I'm not hitting the string directly up and down, I sort of hit it on an angle (maybe I hold my neck too high, but surely not). is this normal or bad? do I need to adjust my wrist so that I hit it dead on, because I do get a scraping sound sometimes. but changing my wrist would be very uncomfortable

it doesnt realy matter when playing with a pick. try getting three sided picks so that if the gouge gets troublsome in a song you can just spin the pick o and the scraping sound usualy gets drowned out in my limited experience. (i seldom play with a pick)

you dont have to play straight on all the time. different tones for each way. id suggest getting a punch of different picks and seeing what tones you can get. I have no less than 3 dozen different picks when Im going to record with my acoustics

oh k, but does anyone out there have the same problem as me, going through so many picks? I mean, maybe if I buy some real tough picks that problem is solved, but I still worry about the little scrapes. but if you think I shouldn't worry about that, your wish is my command ^_^

nope, people go through pics. I use the red tortex alot with my acoustics and go through about 2 or 3 a week. .38 .46 and .88 are my usuals so I buy them online a couple of dozen at a time. I have tons of others for studio use but these are my three main ones for acoustic guitar. For electric bass I like Green, Blue and Purple tortex or the grippy gator version. Just experiment with the different types.
