Playing RnB

Hey Janek, I am a bass player who has experience mostly just playing jazz but I also dig playing more RnB type stuff. I was wondering what artists in that genre you are into and some stuff that you think as a bass player would be good to listen to for transcribing or really getting into the style of playing in general. Thanks!

Verdine White - Listen to Earth Wind and Fire
Early Marcus Miller - He's played with a number of RnB artists.

Check out Erykah Badu's 'Baduizm' (in particular the live album) for some serious R'n'B bass playing (quite a bit of Jazz inluence too).

Jamerson is the root of it all.....

everything after that is icing on the cake depending where you look.

Check out chuck rainey, joel smith, gouche, ricky minor, ethan farmer, kern brentley.....

if you check out those guys, they'll lead you to some other great stuff too.

Easy,

Janek
