First off I really dig the myspace stuff. I had been having sound problems so I couldnt check them out before.

Also thanks for all this talk about the hannon book. I just bought book one online for 4 bucks the other day and have already started working on it both on electric and upright. I can see it being a great thing for intonation, speed, technique and sound.

So heres the question. You say you start all of transcriptions on piano? Any specific reason for this? I usually do mine on electric unless I'm trying to figure out a specific chord voicing or transcribing a head and learning chord qualities.

glad you're digging the hannon book.

I used to do all my transcriptions on the piano to get my piano chops together. I did dozens of solos at the piano and have been able to play many gigs as a piano player in the past. Learning all that language at the piano just helped me to develope another instrument at the same time as transcribing.

I don't always have a piano where I am on the road these days, so I do a lot of the transcriptions either by ear without an instrument at all, or with the bass in the hotel room maybe.

I'm working on a michael brecker solo right now and it's all been done with the bass. The piano was just something I was using in the beginning to work on my chops.

easy,

Janek
