Recording your live gigs

Hi Janek

On you Podcast 8 you talked about recording your gigs on the upcoming tour. Which recording setup you use? On live at 55 bar you used two stereo mics right?

Thanks
Christian

Not sure what we're going to use on the upcoming tour. Probably a zoom or edirol digital recorder. Keeping it pretty simple for this one.

I'll try and expand the recording set up for the road one www.artonearth.com is in full swing.

Easy,

Janek

hi janek,
sorry if this is too much of a 'geary' question - but was wondering what you think of the edirol recorders for live recording? have any of your bootleg series been recorded on one? thinking of investing in one and would be good to hear your experience with them.

no idea about the machine actually, never used it but I hear great things about it.

I've always used a Sony PCM D1 - http://www.zzounds.com/item--SNYPCMD1

really high end piece of gear, sounds great for a live gig.

Easy,

Janek

Just to add to Janeks response, several my friends have the Sony PCM D50. It's not as expensive or functional as the PCM D1, but it still sounds and functions great. I've heard several recordings from them and they're all very clear. Very "live at the 55" sounding.

An Edirol R09 will work fine, gives rise to great recordings and has decent built in mics. The new Zoom H4n is also a good recorder. There are a lot of offerings and price points to choose from these days from Sony, Yamaha, Edirol/Roland, Marantz, Zoom, Tascam, Olympus.
