hi Janek,
i was diggin on your youtube stuff today and came across this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V4QdLuUv-U

when so many folks are trying to reinvent right hand bass technique (Willis, Garrison, DiPiazza, Feraud, etc), i really dig your finger-style walk (you even seem to play chords with index/middle).

for the intro, you are doing what appears to be ol'school side of the thumb/palm mute stuff... as the quality isn't the best, i was wondering if you are double thumbing this or just down strokes (i am a big fan of muted-doublethumb in a non-slap context)?

also, for the false harmonics it looks like you are "touching" w/ index and either plucking w/ middle finger or walking with a middle/ring walk. regardless of technique, it is on point musically. if you are walking your mid/ring, it is just technically ridonkulous!

I never use a double thumb, it's all single. With the false harmonics I'm using the index finger to point at the note I want, and then using a combination of ring and middle behind it. It's really a feel thing at this point, I haven't actually thought about it in a long time.... but I think that's what's going on down there with the right hand......

Easy,

Janek

I saw that gig and can confirm, indeed, that it was eye poppingly brilliant. I've also seen some of the other bassists listed in the first post up close (one very recently naming no names) and have to say that Janek's thing in full flight is quite a few furlongs further down the track, if you get my drift. Truly inspiring...
