Selling Live Recordings

Hey Janek,

I caught your show at the Rochester Jazzfest with Mike Stern a couple weeks ago and was blown away. Didn't actually know you would be there so it was quite the pleasant surprise. I go to a lot of 'jam band' shows like Phish and Umphrey's McGee who both record the shows off the sound board and offer either online downloads or USB sticks with recordings of the show for purchase very shortly after the final note. Especially with Phish it has brought about an entire 'couch tour' culture of fans who download shows because they can't be there in person.

Seeing as you focus heavily on improvisation and your setlists and song approaches are presumably varied enough that every show is unique, have you ever considered doing something like this? I know I would have bought the show I saw in a heartbeat and perhaps the next show in Toronto as well to see what else you guys were up to.

thanks for the kind words, glad you could make the show in Rochester.

I do put my live shows up online for download, here are some links to recent ones:

Although I do record all the shows I play, including the one's with Mike Stern, I don't put that material up online for download unless the artist either gives me permission to or specifically requests that I do so. That's normally down to the artist to facilitate that.

But for my own shows, I put up pretty much every single one that I play for a limited time, and let people download it and check out the music.

Thanks for your support,

Janek

Touche Janek - that's awesome, I'm definitely going to check those out. You should convince Stern to release his shows too though! Thanks again for the great show and link to the downloads.
