Hi I've just become a forum member and have just started playing fretless bass in the last year.(been playing bass 30 yrs.) I own a reissue Jaco Fender fretless and just got a new Genz-Benz shuttle 6.0. Any hints on sound setup to get the most mah fretless sound from this setup? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

I know nothing of the Genz-Benz rig so i can't comment on that really. But like I said on a similar thread a couple of days ago, all the sound come from your fingers and the "acoustic" sound of the instrument. This is very important on a fretless bass as it sings more than a fretted instrument. You have to be in control of the sustain and know how much pressure with your left hand will produce which sonic results.

Easy,

Janek

First recommendation... a little eq goes a long way.

Second recommendation, technique, technique, technique. Lessons and practice with a focus on execution of good technique.

SET UP

And just to add for good measure...set-up

Get a good bass luthier to set up the bass to give you the sound you're after.

Once you know the bass is set up well, then you can confidently work on your fretless technique to bring the best out of the instrument.

The reason I say this is that a badly set up fretless is an awful thing...I've been there and it wasn't pretty...
