Starfire... again

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm sure this was asked a million times..

I just bidded on a "Starfire" bass on ebay. I don't know very much, but I just have a bad feeling about it... It's not DeArmond. It's not a Fender.

I just don't wanna spend something that's not any good/super-knock off. Is it possible that you can give me info on these? Whether or not they're worth it?

This is what the seller says about the bass:

NEW STARFIRE 5 STRING SEMI HOLLOW BODY ELECTRIC BASS

Beautiful cherry sunburst high gloss finish

Rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays

20 frets

Chrome hardware

2 humbucker pickups

3 way pickup switch

2 volume control knobs

2 tone control knobs

Rosewood adjustable bridge

Adjustable neck with truss rod

4 bolt neck

Binding along the front of the body

Scale length is approx. 35"

Width of the body at the bottom is 15 1/4" and 11" at the top

Here's a pic of it.

Why do people post this stuff in 'Ask Janek' section?

Either this forum is haunted by trolls..."join date 2008, 1st post etc", or the "Ask Janek" headline is too irresistible. That's all they're doing - asking Janek.

It's probably a good idea to ask questions before you bid

In this case, Starfire is the name of the company that makes these basses. It's not at all like the Guild, or Fender, or DeArmond Starfire basses. They are hollowbody, but it's a lower end bass. They look pretty cool, but it will probably need a good setup and/or some new strings before it'll play real well. That's just my guess though.

once again,

I really don't know anything about any basses besides foderas and fenders.

I also don't know much about gear at all. There are so many more people on talkbass that could do a much better job of helping you besides me.

Try posting this in the gear sections of the forum.

Easy,

Janek
