Switching to E-C tuning

Hi Janek

When did you switch to the E-C tuning? Didn't you have low B on your Wal bass? I got a Yamaha 5 str. tuned E-C but my main bass is a Fodera 4 str. I have a hard time playing my Yamaha since my Fodera plays and sound ten times better. There is a long waiting time for a New Fodera 5 str. So I can't decide if I should make the switch!

Do you think that you could play your style with a 4 str.?

I'm interested in Janek's reply - but as is the usual custom, the rest of us will chime in before he does!

I think JG uses the high C quite a lot, when I transcribe his music and solos I tend to use my 5 strung E-C as it can get awkward on a 4 string. I think it's an important part of his sound. Players like Hadrien Feraud seem to use more bassy registers for their solos sometimes, but Janek seems to like the higher stuff.

Wish I had a Fodera!

well I'll pretty much play any tuning depending on the situation... I'm on tour right now with my fodera strung E-C, and with a 4 string P-Bass too. I use half and half on the set most nights......

I'm always striving to sound like me no matter what instrument I'm playing, never mind how many strings there are on my bass. I think your own life experience, sound, time, and note selection are the things that going into making you sound like you. So yes, I feel comfortable playing pretty much any instrument and making music.

Easy,

Janek

When did you realize that you wanted explore the E-C tuning? Did you start on that tuning when you started playing bass?

Thanks

-Christian

why you are using the P-bass in certain songs and the fodera in the others? it's because of the bass sound that you need on them?

I use the P Bass for a certain sound and feel on some songs. Pretty simple.

Easy,

Janek
