SWR - XLR noise

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a wonderful old SWR SM400. I use it with 4x10s and a Big Ben. While recording through the line out - xlr I am getting a good bit of noise - any suggestions as to what to look for?
Thanks for any comments/ help

This thread would likely be better off in the "amps" forum: http://talkbass.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=15

I'm sure Janek would love to help you though.

definitely better off in the gear section of this forum....

I have used that amp several times in the past, but I would never use it for recording. It would mess with the natural sound of the bass too much for me.

And you said it was old... so it is probably just old..... and noisy.

My advice would be to not record using an amp of this sort. In fact if you're using a direct out from the amp anyway, forget about using an amp altogether, and just go direct into the board.

If it's a nice board like an SSL or Neve or something, you'll get a much better sound from the channel strip Pre's.

Easy,

Janek
