I went to uni for 2 years and dropped out to join a touring band.. after a year I attempted to go back but found the course very resistant to my work outside of college and also misleading with their advice they gave me prior to joining the course. Basically said I could keep up my work commitments and do the course but once i joined and went on tour I had a few phoen calls and decided to quit. I also found most of the course irrelevant as some modules were things I knew already and had proper experience of first hand in a working environment.
I think uni music courses are good for sure but if you feel you want to get out and play in the real world then it's the best place to learn. I've learnt more and progressed faster than i would've if i stayed in uni and passed up oppurtunities. Putting yourself in at the deep end,imo gives you the kick up the backside and the edge you need to succeed.
That's my experience anyway!
