trebly sounding bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a 2007 Ernie Ball Music Man Stinray 4, ash body rw fb, 1 pu, 3 way active, strung with EB slinki .45 - 1.05. This bass is outrageously trebly, it hurts my ears, if have three bass amps and it sounds like crap on all three. I have to turn down the treble on the bass to -15db otherwise it sounds like breaking glass. Could this be a pick-up issue, broken wire etc, the pick-up height is factory setting. I was so excited to buy a stingray and now I literally hate this bass. got any suggestions, i am so frusterated

I'm going to suggest trying out a bass before you buy it next time...

What attracted you to a Stingray in the first place if you didn't like the tone? I'm assuming you heard one and liked it, so assuming you like the "Stingray tone", and this one sounds like hell, maybe there's something wrong with it. Take it back where you got it, or go to GC and try another one. See if they sound the same.

Try playing with a light touch, that will lessen the treble content greatly. There's truth in the train of thought that the the sound is in the fingers.

Stingray's have the potential for a lot of treble, but also a very cool gravelly ultra "jazz bass on bridge pickup" on steroids sound, which is very deep, but tight rather than muddy.

Its either the bass or the player.

Thanks for the garbage advice hero, next time I'll ask my wife when she's on the rag (maybe she'll be less condescending)
