What is best for a peavey cirrus?

Hey i own a peavey cirrus 5 and it plays great, but doesn't have the exact sound i want.

I'm gigging more and more, so this is the first time i've had money to look into this sort of thing.

Has anyone had experience with swapping out the pups and/or the on-board preamp? (and if so, please describe how it sounded)
