I have an AV 62 Jazz Bass, I think it sounds great. I keep hearing people speak of J Growl,....What is Jazz bass growl ? Maybe a sound clip of J Growl would be cool to see / hear.

Basically - its a very distinctive "near overdrive" sound which generally happens in the high-mids when you play hard near the bridge with the bridge-pickup on...

Any song on Rush's Moving Pictures album, like Red Barchetta. Note that I am assuming he's using his Jazz on this record. But to me, that's a growl.

He used a Jazz on some of those tunes and the Ric on some.

Both the Jazz and the Ric have single-coil pickups near the bridge, so they both "growl", although they don't sound the same. After Geddy runs them through his signal chain and plays them with his fingerstyle it's hard to tell them apart, though.

And growl is basically the sound of pups near the bridge.

RATM= Rage Against the Machine. Anything from their 2nd album and after is when Tim C. started using Jazz basses and has MAJOR growl.

Listen to the intro to this song. Serious growl, although I think it's on a low B-string.

Alice In Chains - Rain When I Die - YouTube

And though it's a Spector, not a Jazz, Queensryche is considered the quintessential example of bass growl:
